We look for the same care from our suppliers and customers that we put in ourselves, right through from the farm to our production floor, our transport and the people who eat the food.
Refrigeration with zero ozone depletion potential
Our Preston Foods production facility has 1,000m² of floor space fitted out with modern machinery, built to keep up with the demands of the business while reducing our environmental impact.
We’ve invested in CO2 refrigeration at our production facility. The system uses CO2 as its refrigerant, with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1 and an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of 0, and it runs in a closed cycle.
A regular maintenance schedule helps the system run efficiently and reduces the risk of leaks and unplanned emissions.
70% of our transport is with an eco-friendly partner
Our sister company KAM Transport is our main transport provider, and the only transport company of its kind in New Zealand currently holding Toitū enviromark gold certification. Their eco-friendly fleet runs modern technology that reports on driver behaviour and CO2 emissions.
KAM has also introduced a policy of carrying fuller loads and making fewer trips, as an active effort to reduce carbon emissions.
The result – a 16% reduction in CO2 emissions
KAM gives us ongoing utilisation reports and uses Scania Driver Performance Monitoring, so we can see what their work to cut carbon emissions is delivering.
Water – a precious resource
New machinery is how we cut the water we use.
Our older packaging machines pumped water out as waste. Our new thermoformer recirculates the water that cools the machine, and has used just 20 litres of water in total since it was installed in December 2024.
