A Toitū enviromark® gold certified business

Toitū enviromark® gold status a win for company and its community

Our Wellington-based, family-owned business has been part of the community for 120 years, and has now achieved Toitū enviromark gold certification.

The Preston Corp Group, which includes Preston’s Master Butchers, KAM Transport and Logistics, Ken Wilson Meats, and Preston Foods, has gained Toitū enviromark gold status across every brand, as part of our work to reduce our environmental impact.

To earn it, the Preston Corp companies put in place a plan to meet the goals in their environmental policy statement, backed by an Environmental Management System (EMS).

Chief Executive Hamish Preston said the certification is a win not just for the company, but the community as a whole.

“We’ve worked really hard and invested a significant amount into modern technology across our businesses, as we know sustainable practices are something that the whole community wants and benefits from,” Mr Preston said.

“We’re committed to managing our environmental impact and working to continually reduce the negative impacts of our activities. We’re continuously working on finding ways to have an ongoing positive impact on our environment.”

Other actions achieved across the brands include:

  • Installing an energy efficient CO2 refrigeration system at the Preston Foods factory in Grenada North.
  • Moving the Porirua Preston’s Master Butchers store away from 404a refrigerant gas, which contributes to global warming, to reduce gas emissions.
  • Using capacity reports at KAM Transport so vehicles carry bigger loads and make fewer trips.
  • Investigating reusable pallet wrap at Ken Wilson Meats to significantly reduce soft plastic use.

Just the beginning

Mr Preston said the certification is just the start for Preston Corp.

“We will continue to review our goals and practices to ensure we’re doing what we can to protect our environment and stay in front sustainable business practices.”
